Arginine is an amino acid that helps the body build protein.
Arginine is converted in the body into a chemical called nitric oxide. Nitric oxide causes blood vessels to open wider for improved blood flow.
Some evidence shows that arginine may help improve blood flow in the arteries of the heart. That may improve symptoms of clogged arteries, chest pain or angina, and coronary artery disease.
Since arginine may help arteries relax and improve blood flow, it may also help with erectile dysfunction.
Too little arginine can lead to high blood pressure.
